The Little Miami State Park Trail

Accommodations

In this listing, a * indicates those reasonably accessible by bicycle from the trail; other facilities are listed for those arriving by car.

  • Springfield: Closest are *Beatty Motel, about one mi. east on Possum Rd.; and *Hampshire House, *Holiday Inn,*Imperial House, and *Ramada Inn, all one mile east on Leffel Lane at S.R. 72.
  • Yellow Springs: *The Morgan House Bed and Breakfast has been highly recommended. There is also reportedly the Springs Motel. Camping available in *John Bryan State Park, 1 mile east.
  • Xenia: *Holiday Inn and *Best Western just west of downtown on the main east-west street. *Allendale Inn a bit further west.
Cedarville (new) --Miami Valley's newest and only bike path country inn hotel, the Hearthstone Inn & Suites -- right on the trail (Ohio-to-Erie #4) in Cedarville between Xenia and South Charleston. "Family owned and operated and biker-friendly."
  • *Spring Valley Frontier Campground: From U.S. 42, seven miles south of Xenia or five miles north of Waynesville, or from Roxanna (big "Southwest Landmark" farm supply place) on the trail, go east 1.5 miles on Roxanna-New Burlington Road, right on Pence-Jones Road 3/4 mile to Collett Road -- then left to campground. Phone 937-862-4510. Cyclists welcome.
  • Caesar Creek State Park Campground is 10 miles by road from the nearest point on the trail. From U.S. 42 or Roxanna (see above) go 4 miles east on Roxanna-New Burlington Rd., 4 miles south on Rte. 380, 2 miles northwest on Center Road.
  • Corwin: *Siemer Station is a B&B (4 rooms), campground and bike repair shop, accessible from the trail or from New Burlington Rd., one-fourth mile north of Corwin. Phone 513-897-6465. Across the river in Waynesville is the *Creekwood Motel, corner of US 42 and SR 73, and the *Hammel Hotel, on Main St.
  • Lebanon: Though it's about six miles west, a pleasant country-road ride from Oregonia or Mathers Mill, you might like to plan ahead and stay at *The Golden Lamb, Ohio's oldest inn (with a great restaurant). There are several other accomodations in town.
  • Fort Ancient: In summer, *Morgan's Canoe Livery has an attended campground across the river at the bridge two miles south (Strout Rd.). For directions by car from I-71 exit 32, call 513-899-2166. Open late April to mid-October. Bicyclists and canoeists welcome.
  • Kings Mills: Across the river from the Peters Cartridge Factory and up the steep hill is the *Kings Manor B&B (4 rooms). One level mile beyond, at the I-71 exits, (heavy traffic!) are the Kings Island Inn, the Holiday Inn Express, Comfort Suites hotel, Microtel Inn, and lots of restaurants.
Morrow: Nothing nearby. No campground, either.
  • Loveland: * Historic Loveland's Little Miami Scenic Trail Resort Village Bed & Breakfast, Inn and Conference Center is a B&B cluster of refurbished houses adjacent to the bike trail in Loveland, with the main house and breakfast room a stone's throw away. Totally non-smoking. Bike and skate rental also. Phone 513-683-0090. Register or inquire at the Yellow House Ice Cream Parlor.
Four miles west, at I-71 Exit 19 (Fields-Ertel Rd.) there is a Comfort Inn, Signature Inn, Red Roof Inn, Marriott Hotel, and maybe others by the time you read this. But don't plan on biking to the trail from that location -- traffic is incredibly heavy and roads inadequate.
  • Milford: The three-star *Mariemont Inn (call ahead) is about five level miles southwest on busy but wide U.S. 50. It's reasonable to ride in daylight, (commuter traffic is mostly in the opposite direction) but don't try it after dark.
Three miles northeast, through town on U.S. 50 and uphill on S.R. 28, at the I-275 exit is Holiday Inn Express. Biking to or from there at rush hour is not recommended. Of course, if you're driving to Cincinnati, Dayton or Springfield to start the ride, there are many other hotels and motels where you could stay and then drive to your starting point.

MAPS

Maps of the trail area may be useful to those coming from other areas. For the finest maps, we recommend DeLorme's Atlas and Gazetteer of Ohio. Cheaper and still useful are county maps from Ohio Dept. of Transportation. Order Clermont, Warren, Greene and Clark Counties ($0.35 each ppd.) from Map Sales, ODOT, P.O. Box 899, Columbus, OH 43216-0899. Make check payable to Treasurer of the State of Ohio.

The latest version of each of these still shows the trail as an abandoned railroad, and does not even show that north of Xenia.
