Central Ohio Group Volunteer Opportunities
Interested in helping out? The Sierra Club
Central Ohio Group (COG) has the following volunteer
opportunities:
Publicity Coordinator/Team This person would work with the COG Executive Committee
to help get the word out about our events and advocacy
efforts. Responsibilities include distributing the
newsletter to local libraries, placing notices of events in
local newspapers, and helping develop the Group’s presence
on the web (see below). Our goal is for the coordinator to
lead a team of volunteers who share these responsibilities.
The responsibilities require anywhere from 2 – 6 hours a
month.
Social Networking The COG is interesting in expanding our presence on the
web! We’re looking for a computer-savvy member who can help
create and maintain a Sierra Club Central Ohio social
networking site (such as Facebook). The idea is to open new
channels of communication with current, new, and potential
members. This effort is estimated to require about 2-8 hours
a month after initial set-up.
Volunteer Liaison with F.L.O.W. We are looking for someone who will be the volunteer
liaison for our river cleanup work with Friends of the Lower
Olentangy Watershed. Responsibilities include helping to
recruit volunteers for the cleanups. The work is seasonal
(summer months) and the responsibilities require about 2
hours a month.
Membership Volunteers We are looking for volunteers to help our Membership
Chair connect with and maintain contact with our members.
Responsibilities include attending as many monthly program
meetings as you can, making phone calls, and some data entry
to keep our lists up to date. These responsibilities are
estimated to require about 3-8 hours a month.
Calendar Sales Coordinator/Team This person would be the main contact for selling the
Sierra Club calendars. The work is seasonal (October –
December) and involves receiving orders, distributing
calendars, and collecting money. The position only requires
several hours of work for the three months at the end of the
year, and does not require cold-call selling. If you can
help the club out with a few hours each month for the last 3
months of the year, we’d love to hear from you.
If any of these opportunities interest you, or if you
simply want to get involved in some other capacity, please
contact: (COG Chair) or
(COG Vice-Chair).
